She had worked as a model for the previous three years and then acted as the child-possessed Regan. Linda was awarded the Golden Globe and was on track to receive the Academy Award. However, after the revelation in the media that Mercedes McCambridge had dubbed the demonic voice and 8 seconds were acted by a stunt duo, the dream of having an A-list career was a failure. The following years saw Linda was able to land lead roles in an array of motion pictures. These included the successful TV films Born Innocent and Sarah T. (also known as Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic and Exorcist II - The Heretic. Her arrest was a result of three years' probation when she the pressure of her friends forced her to buy cocaine as she was turning the age of 18. Linda's time in Hollywood had been reduced to B films and occasional TV appearances as a guest after her well-publicized arrest on cocaine possession.
